Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) in shaping the religious character and civic attitudes of santri (students). The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach and is conducted in pesantren located in Kuningan Regency. The research subjects include kiai or pesantren caretakers, ustaz/ustazah (teachers), and santri who have resided in the pesantren for at least two years. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis, with validity ensured through triangulation and member checking. The results indicate that pesantren play a significant role in shaping students’ character through the habituation of religious practices, discipline, and role modeling, which in turn foster attitudes of responsibility, social concern, and an understanding of civic values aligned with the principles of Pancasila.
