PERAN MAHASISWA DALAM PENERAPAN PEMBELAJARAN KONTEKSTUAL IPA MELALUI INOVASI EKSPERIMEN PEMBUATAN ES KRIM SEDERHANA DI SDN BALIR

The Community Service activity conducted by PGMI students of Al-Zaytun Islamic Institute at SDN Balir aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the concepts of phase changes and heat transfer through a contextual learning approach based on experimentation. The experiment involved making simple ice cream using accessible materials such as milk, ice, and salt. Thirty students from grades IV and V participated, working in small groups using two different methods: friction and rotation. The results showed improvements in students’ cognitive understanding, psychomotor skills, and affective engagement. This activity also fostered scientific thinking, teamwork, observation, and reflection. Beyond providing an enjoyable learning experience, the program served as a platform for sharing best practices between student-teachers and school educators in implementing contextual science learning. The initiative proved to be both effective and applicable, offering a replicable model of experiment-based science education for elementary schools, especially those with limited laboratory facilities.
