EKSISTENSI PESANTREN SALAF DI ERA MILENIAL:
Antara Tradisi dan Inovasi
Keywords:
pesantren salaf, Islamic tradition, millennial era, Islamic education, social transformationAbstract
This study aims to examine the existence of pesantren salaf (traditional Islamic boarding schools) in the millennial era, focusing on how these institutions preserve classical Islamic values while responding to contemporary social, cultural, and technological dynamics. Using a qualitative approach through library research, this study analyzes both classical and contemporary sources. The findings indicate that pesantren salaf continue to exist and are still favored by various social classes due to their commitment to kitab kuning (classical texts), spiritual values, and character building. On the other hand, some pesantren salaf have begun to adapt to the times by utilizing digital media, establishing vocational training units, and modifying learning methods to suit the context of modern learners. Despite challenges from millennial learners and the persistence of conservative stereotypes, pesantren salaf have proven capable of serving as centers of moderate Islamic education and maintaining their role as stabilizing moral institutions within society. This study affirms that pesantren salaf are dynamic institutions resilient to change and capable of selective transformation without compromising their traditional authenticity.
